History of the Lemon Drop Martini

The lemon drop martini, a cocktail influenced by the lemon drop candy, has been around since the 80's, or perhaps that's when it grew to become most popular. The initial recipe consisted of vodka, fresh lemon juice as well as sugar, nothing else. It had been a simple, simple to make and refreshing drink.

The vodka used in this drink is exactly what used to make this cocktail so popular . Throughout the 80's vodka was an essential spirit because it was used in a great number of new cocktail drinks. Nowadays vodka is available in endless flavors and you can find lemon drop martini recipes which use lemon flavored vodka like Absolut Citron rather than regular vodka.
